Ever wondered how apartment units get certified? Behind the paperwork lies a fascinating world of geospatial technology, and I had the incredible opportunity to be part of it during my internship at PT Zona Spasial.
Transforming Point Clouds into BIM Models
As a 3D Modeling & Quality Control Intern, my main task was to create Building Information Models (BIM) from georeferenced point clouds. Using Autodesk Revit, I transformed raw spatial data into precise 3D apartment models, ensuring that every unit was accurately represented.
To process and manage the point cloud data, I worked with Autodesk ReCap, a powerful tool for converting laser scan data into detailed digital models.
Beyond the Model: Quality Control with Dynamo
Creating BIM models wasn’t just about visualization—it had to be precise and accurate. A critical part of my role was quality control, where I detected gaps and inconsistencies in the model.
For this, I used Dynamo for Revit, a graphical programming interface that automates workflows in Revit. With Dynamo scripts, I was able to:
✅ Identify missing or misaligned elements in the model
✅ Validate area and volume calculations for each apartment unit
âś… Ensure compliance with cadastral and certification standards
Tech Toolbox: What I Used
🔹 Autodesk ReCap – for processing georeferenced point clouds
🔹 Autodesk Revit – for creating accurate BIM apartment models
🔹 Dynamo for Revit – for automating quality control and spatial validation
Lessons Learned & Looking Ahead
This internship was an eye-opening experience that strengthened my skills in:
âś… BIM modeling & spatial data processing
âś… Point cloud interpretation & automated quality control
âś… Dynamo scripting for workflow automation
I left Zona Spasial with a deeper appreciation for the power of automation in geospatial technology. From laser-scanned data to refined BIM models, every detail mattered in shaping the future of real estate, urban planning, and digital construction.
Would I do it again? Absolutely. Because in the world of geospatial technology, every point, polygon, and pixel helps build a smarter future. 🚀
